Passion in Prayer
What does Christlike prayer sound like?
Hebrews 5 gives us a hint.
In the days of his flesh, he offered up “prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death …”
Jesus prayed like a lion roaring up to heaven. And what was the Father’s response?
“He was heard because of his reverence.”
Jesus didn’t waste time with polite petitions. Overwhelmed by a fiery faith and godly desire, his heart burst out into passionate pleas.
Do you want to pray like Jesus?
Before you pray, consider the possibilities.
The One who can do all things hears you.
He is mightier than you can imagine and closer than you can comprehend. In his hands belongs all the wisdom and power needed to alleviate every burden, big and small. The King of the Universe is your Eternal Father—and in this very moment, he bends his ear to hear what you say.
When we draw near to the Father monotone and unmoved, we’re not seeing him like the Messiah. Jesus had the clearest vision of the Father—and he called to heaven with loud cries and tears.
Has your passion in prayer cooled? Has your spirit—once stirred for great things—settled into the stony existence of faithless formalities?
Cold prayers reveal a heart content with what the earth can give.
Stir up again the embers of the soul. Remember all that is possible in prayer.
Jesus hollered to heaven as if his life depended on it—because it did. Settle for nothing less than what comes from above, and you will cry out with passion to the only one who can give it.
