First Help or Fallback

“Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine.” (Ps. 33:18-19)

Where do you go first when you “meet trials of various kinds”?

Heaven’s resources flow to people who go first to God in times of trouble.

Many keep Christ in mind as a reserve.

I will try out my skills, my assets, and my connections—and if those aren’t enough to handle it, then I’ll look to God.

When prayer is our backup plan, we are blind to the army, the armory, and the Almighty available from above.

God’s eye searches for a different posture.

I will run to God first as my helper, my strength, and my wisdom in all things.

Is God your fallback or your first help?

Your greatest abilities can become your greatest liabilities if they keep you from going first to God.

The king’s trust in his great army keeps angels at bay. The warrior’s trust in his strength quenches the Holy Spirit. The soldier’s trust in his horse hides chariots of fire (Ps. 33:15-17).

You cannot receive the fullness of supernatural power as long as your natural capacity is enough for you.

The Lord waits to work wonders on behalf of those who are banking on him.
