Accept Your Lot
“He who loves money will not be satisfied with money … Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God.” (Eccles. 5:10, 19)
We crave like a traveler striving for the horizon—always aiming to settle at the distant line but arriving each time to find it has moved.
If we knew we were running after a shifting target, we’d stop the chase.
But there is a lie that keeps us from noticing the moving line:
Just one more—and then you can settle in.
One more home renovation. One more kid. One more friend. One more breakthrough. One more promotion. One more pay raise. One more purchase.
In the pursuit for the next “one more,” we forget how fast the rush of the last “one more” came and left.
You were made for joy, but it is never found on the other side of “one more.” You can have it now, in knowing and trusting the One who made you.
Busy your heart with the illusion of the next thing, and you’ll waste your days exhausted and distracted.
But let your heart be glad in God—right where you are—and he will keep you “so busy enjoying life” that you’ll lose sight of whatever lesser thing you lack (Eccles. 5:19).
This is the truth that ends the delusion:
Divine love has given me all I need for joy in this very moment: no more and no less.
The search for contentment always lands on “Current Location.” God’s blessing of joy comes from savoring his fullness through every gift he has already sent your way.
